When I first started voice lessons with Debora, I was still in the process of trying to find my own sound and develop my own style as a singer. Even though I had been singing my entire life, it wasn’t until my classes with Debora that I really started to look at myself as an artist. Debora made me realize that singing has a lot more to it than just having a good voice. No matter what stage of your career you are at as a singer, there is always room for improvement. Debora helped me find what my strengths and weaknesses were as a vocalist, which allowed me to focus on different aspects of my voice even after our one hour lessons were over.

More than just a great teacher, Debora is a great person. She wants to see you succeed and she will do everything that she can to make sure that it happens. Right after our first lesson, I could tell how much Debora genuinely cares about her students and I could see how passionate she is about her teaching. Students are always looking for people to believe in them and to push them to follow their dreams, and Debora does exactly that. She challenged me to create my own path as an artist by staying true to myself. Each lesson I would always learn something new and she made sure that I was always taking a step forward. She pushed me to be better. She pushed me to challenge myself. After having taken classes with Debora, I can honestly say that she has helped bring out the artist that has always been inside of me. A little bit nervous and shy about what I was coming to do, I came into the studio where they had called me to see about recording some Christmas songs. I was unsure about it from the beginning, telling myself “they won’t call you”. To my surprise in an hour or so my cell-phone rang and I was asked to come and record the following day.

This is how I began my journey with Debora, which has turned out to be one of the most enriching experiences of my life as a singer.
It was hard work; many hours, lots of movement, lots to learn. That said, these were hours where every second was made to count. Debora takes trouble over every detail, correcting every vocal impurity that one might have. However, to Debora, it’s not only the vocal element of singing that is important, but the human element too. For this reason, she works in all areas; emotional, affective, vocal, etc., making sure she takes time over things such as one’s self-esteem, security, the tensions one might have, the particular way one might sing, voice projection, and thus being able to transmit and really feel what it is that one is singing.

During these times working with Debora, I could see how things which had seemed so difficult were actually attainable as her explanations are so clear that one can grasp things in a simple way. With exercises I could reach deeper notes that I’d found hard in the past. With a different type of exercise I managed to remove some vocal tensions that I’d had. But the most important thing is what was evident on the day of our first show, where I could really enjoy what I was doing, where I really believed I was an angel and just by moving my mouth the notes came out freely from my throat.

From the beginning working with Debora my outlook changed so much that people said they saw me differently, even when I wasn’t singing. I think this is because Debora made me feel like somebody, just anybody, but someone valued and important, not only as a singer, but as a person.

When I first met Debora, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had just moved to Miami from New York, and I had taken lessons with over 10 different coaches over the past few years, trying to find someone that understood where I was coming from vocally. I didn’t have a natural singing ability and I knew I was going to work hard if I wanted to learn.

I was expecting to find a GOOD vocal coach, but what I found was not just an AMAZING vocal coach, but a mentor and someone who deeply influenced me in my career as a musician. It has now been two and half years since my first class and I am a completely different person than who I was when I first walked through Debora’s door. She not only helped my voice but she was key in introducing me to people that could help me in other areas, such as stage presence and great people to work with in the studio.

I look at the early videos and songs I made of myself and the things I wanted to release and I’m thankful I had Debora as a coach because she told me I wasn’t ready to release anything to the public yet. Instead she helped me develop an artistic awareness and attention to detail that to this day I keep perfecting under her mentorship.
She was key in developing a higher standard not just in my vocals, but every other area as an artist. She understood that I didn’t want to just be a great singer, I wanted to be a great performer, a great songwriter and a great artist, and she’s helped me develop all of those areas ever since.
